  • 1 pound (450g) spaghetti

  • 1 tablespoon salt

  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pound (450g) ground beef or Italian sausage
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
  • 1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 teaspoons dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for heat)
  • 2 teaspoons sugar (to balance acidity)
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

For Serving:

  • Grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh basil or parsley leaves (optional)
  1. Cook the Spaghetti:

    1. In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Add 1 tablespoon of salt to the boiling water.
    2. Add the spaghetti and cook according to the package instructions until al dente.
    3. Drain the spaghetti and set aside.

    2. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
